Great

Today was great!..the most amount of things I did/learn in a day compared to the last 2 days. Got to do most parts of the whole process and the lab officer today was just wonderful. He was such a patient and good mentor! Teach me everything, even when I know them already he would just repeat again..(coz he don't know what they taught me for the last 2 days; they rotate to different labs every day.) Then let me do them myself while he just do other work and then check on me from time to time. So he trusted me to do the samples...and was so patient. He was totally not in a rush...and so he was quite good in handling the lab process as he like can slowly dilly-dally. Think usually he can do very fast one...if not for teaching me la..coz people were surprised why he haven't finish doing his (usual) stuff by 1pm. Then we had to buy lunch back for him. Think it's also because today got one sample...got discrepancy and had to do again and again and check records, and do serological testing, blah blah...then must clean up the analyzer, prepare reagents, alot of things loh...compared to the last 2 days...He like so good loh...prepare everything so that the other people of the week don't have to do.

And by the way, the stupid sample that he spent so much time on was actually a previous donor. Somemore donate regularly. He was actually a para-bombay phenotype!!..exciting ah...alvin poh say see bombay must tell him...but don't know whether he saw para-bombay before. It was a OhA (meaning O [Bombay] blood group subgroup of A). The analyzer couldn't pick up the results for 2 times. And then when we did manually, the first time show O, the second and third time showed A and O mixed. So they checked back his records, (coz he is a regular donor..) and realised he has Anti-HI and is a para-bombay donor. And para-bombay means even O blood group also cannot give if he needs blood loh..so poor thing..anything happen..., very hard to find blood. But no worries, CTM knows that, and we freeze blood. His blood has been freezed long ago...so got stock..but they were thinking whether should throw away the old blood freezed and stock up using the new blood donated. He really regular loh..every 3 months SURE come one..we print his report of previous donations also 3 pages long loh..haha

Then in the afternn today around 5pm went over to Xmatching. Mr. Kang gave me a short overview of the "reception" area and what they did there. It where the forms are, the place where u issue blood, products, plasma, whatever. Then how they key into system, how they store the awaiting issue stuff etc etc. So today didn't hands-on in Xmatching...probably tml if tml BGT is fast. hmm....ok..go watch tv.
