hmm...today's sat and I just went to work for half a day today. Worked with the nice colleague in BGT again today. And next week I would see him again in a new lab, the TPHA lab, which tests for syphillis. My supervisor says that I would finish up with all the ID testing labs first before moving on the others. ID testing labs consists of blood group testing, Infectious Diseases (which includes TPHA, HCV, HIV, and Hep B) so for the next few weeks I would say around these infectious diseases labs. Then the remaining labs are blood component processing (to seperate them into different components..), Immunohaematology (which includes 24hr crossmatching lab, red cell reference lab - which does serology, antibody identification(the big long list of antigens)), customer service lab (issuing of blood to other hospitals), tissue typing service (HLA typing).
Then after I finish with rotating to other labs, I can choose which one I want to go to for the rest of the weeks before I start on my MP. Kind of good eh.
So..that's all I find out for now..on to the next week in 2 days. Heard from my supervisor that 2 ngeeann stoodents are coming for attachment too next week. Wow. Around my age...better to make frens?..lol...but they younger generation at the labs now are nice la..they also very chatty one la..but usually very busy can't talk much except during lunch and breaks. So I go find them loh...but kinda paiseh at the start. lol.

Great
Today was great!..the most amount of things I did/learn in a day compared to the last 2 days. Got to do most parts of the whole process and the lab officer today was just wonderful. He was such a patient and good mentor! Teach me everything, even when I know them already he would just repeat again..(coz he don't know what they taught me for the last 2 days; they rotate to different labs every day.) Then let me do them myself while he just do other work and then check on me from time to time. So he trusted me to do the samples...and was so patient. He was totally not in a rush...and so he was quite good in handling the lab process as he like can slowly dilly-dally. Think usually he can do very fast one...if not for teaching me la..coz people were surprised why he haven't finish doing his (usual) stuff by 1pm. Then we had to buy lunch back for him. Think it's also because today got one sample...got discrepancy and had to do again and again and check records, and do serological testing, blah blah...then must clean up the analyzer, prepare reagents, alot of things loh...compared to the last 2 days...He like so good loh...prepare everything so that the other people of the week don't have to do.
And by the way, the stupid sample that he spent so much time on was actually a previous donor. Somemore donate regularly. He was actually a para-bombay phenotype!!..exciting ah...alvin poh say see bombay must tell him...but don't know whether he saw para-bombay before. It was a OhA (meaning O [Bombay] blood group subgroup of A). The analyzer couldn't pick up the results for 2 times. And then when we did manually, the first time show O, the second and third time showed A and O mixed. So they checked back his records, (coz he is a regular donor..) and realised he has Anti-HI and is a para-bombay donor. And para-bombay means even O blood group also cannot give if he needs blood loh..so poor thing..anything happen..., very hard to find blood. But no worries, CTM knows that, and we freeze blood. His blood has been freezed long ago...so got stock..but they were thinking whether should throw away the old blood freezed and stock up using the new blood donated. He really regular loh..every 3 months SURE come one..we print his report of previous donations also 3 pages long loh..haha
Then in the afternn today around 5pm went over to Xmatching. Mr. Kang gave me a short overview of the "reception" area and what they did there. It where the forms are, the place where u issue blood, products, plasma, whatever. Then how they key into system, how they store the awaiting issue stuff etc etc. So today didn't hands-on in Xmatching...probably tml if tml BGT is fast. hmm....ok..go watch tv.

here it goes..
wow wow...I am finished with my 2nd day of work le!!...
Heard from others that they had stuff like a meeting, orientation, briefing, whatever for something like a few hours to half a day before starting work and assigned to labs. But I only had a 10 minutes briefing and filling in of forms and stuff before I was sent into the first lab I would be working at. (I would go on a rotation to different labs after a few weeks but my supervisor hasn't drawn up a list.)
So I am now at Blood Group Testing Laboratory(BGT). Basically for the first day, I didn't do much except some minor stuff like helping to wash 3X saline, and centrifugation, and washing of microtitre plates and counting of forms. oh..and reading of SOP..lol. I could only observe and the lab officer in charge that day couldn't teach me much because she was SO busy. Coz on every monday, they are very very busy one coz have to process 2 days samples...from Sat and Sun. Then today, I took a half day leave to go for my driving Test (Which I passed by the way, YAHOO!!) and then by the time i went back, everything was done le...nothing for me to do except sit there and do nothing and read SOPs. Read for 2 days le..read until don't want to read le..haha..write notes somemore. Cause the lab finish doing stuff by 3pm everyday...then I knock off at 6.00-6.30pm like that..Then I finally got a chance to ask my supervisor if I can pop by the other labs(although not assigned there yet) to help out and learn. Then she say sure!...at first I ask the lab officer of BGT but she say unless your supervisor allow loh..coz she say different "territory" then she don't know can anot. But now can le...I tomorrow onwards can "crash" other labs le...she recommend I go crossmatching first..muahaha...and find the Mr-nice-and a-lot-of-stories-guy: Mr. Kang. lol..first day already play host to me..bring me go lunch, tell me stories..Just like how alvin poh say he's like. lol..then everytime see him also smile smile and say hello. Actually most people there very nice. And surprisingly ah...the staff population for the CTM labs (Just the people doing CTM labwork ah) not alot leh!..can always see the familar faces around. Then all very nice people. lol..always say funny (sometimes lame) things..no wonder alvin poh was like that..muahahaha
So so..hopefully tml onwards I can do more stuff in the BGT lab. then finish BGT, can go over to Xmatching in the afternn..and I got to ask my supervisor about my Major Project(MP) today. she got some projects in mind le...actually is projects that she's been wanting to get people together to do...but always no time for meeting and stuff...so she say I can do them...maybe on a smaller scale though. And when she was discussing some details of the project to me, I realised why I came into this course lol...for that instant. Cause when she was explaining to me...I feel as if there was a sparkle in my eye..lol..so excited by the project. At least I got a rough idea on what I am doing. Interesting. Update on that next time..
So..looking forward to tomorrow!..reporting at work at 8am..waking up at 6.15am..What?!...and I am still here!?!?!...better go sleep now..

Busy
This week has been busy, busy and busy. There's AT LEAST an activity a day. lol...
Just went to watch MAMMA MIA today. Wow...it was fabulous...this time it was at esplanade. (The last time I watched a musical was at the kallang theatre for Ms. Saigon). And this time I could see the musicians live. It was great. And the conductor cum keyboard player was involved in the drama as well..haha.
The cast were so energetic, wonderful singing, lines and actions were funny, blah blah. So I enjoyed myself and paid quite a lot. lol..but it's worth for such an art. I love musicals. Among all arts, I love musicals the most. 2nd are musical concerts (not those pop concerts pluuhese...) And true to the newspaper reports, the crowd joined in the fun at the end. Most were standing up and dancing to the music and it was fun to be in such an atmosphere.
haix..this whole week so busy...pretty tired. lol...but I enjoy it. hahahaha..nites..

After EXAMS
It's been 2 days after exams. Been so tired that I've got no time to blog it. This was my LAST exams. I mean LAST exams in the 3 years in Poly. Quite significant heh.
And today, the whole cohord got to know where they are going for SIP. I am going to...........*drumrolls* Centre of Transfusion Medicine aka CTM. For the benefit of those who don't know what that is,...let me do a little bit of explanation. Basically it's the center of the Nation's blood supply. All blood donations are done here (even mobile donation stations are sent out from here), all testing of blood donated are done here, and when the hospitals in singapore need blood or blood products, they requests them from here. It a REally Really important Place.
Even before the SIP placement was annouced I was already excited. I am excited to go wherever the Lord places me. So I know wherever I get, I would enjoy it. So when I knew today that I am going CTM, I was like only "ok..so be it". Until my frens went..."WAH.....you going CTM leh....*with the envy voices..lol*" then I realise how blessed I am. I've got the job that some people actually wanted!..And the thing is I am the only one sent there!...in a way, it's kinda feel lost and 'have-to-eat-lunch-alone' feeling...but I don't mind la...I am not the kind who cannot eat alone one loh. But in another way, it may be a blessing too as it may mean the lecturers think that I am kind of...how to say, erm, independent and responsible enough to work there alone? lol...I hope so it's that way..
But anyway, wherever I go, I trust that the Lord will bless me in that area, and that everything is in His plans for me!..Praise the Lord...the only "bad" thing about this attachment now is that I have to wake up real early!!!!!
So exciting...lol

Song of the moment:
Angels Brought Me Here (Jason, you've got it stuck in my head!..haha)
It's been a long and winding journey
But I'm finally here tonight
Picking up the pieces and walking
Back into the light
Into the sunset of the glory
Where my heart and future lies
There's nothing like that feeling
When I look into your eyes
My dreams came true
When I found you,
I found You, my miracle
(chorus)
If you could see what I see
That you're the answer to my prayers
If you could feel the tenderness I feel
You would know, it would be clear
that the ANGELS BROUGHT ME HERE
Standing here before you
Feels like I've been born again
Every breath is your love
Every heart beat speaks your name
My dreams came true
Right here in front of You
My miracle
(chorus)
Brought me here to be with You
I'll be forever grateful
Forever faithful
My dreams came true
When I found You
My miracle
(repeat 2x)
If you could see what I see
You're the answer to my prayers
And if you could feel the tenderness I feel
You would know, it would be clear
That the ANGELS BROUGHT ME HERE

Boring
This is super boring. Mugging again for exams. But actually...not mugging la..more of slacking. They should have a phrase/name for the "phenomenon" where students would just not feel like studying when it's examinations time. I don't even know what's it's called. But it always comes. Haix....
I really feel guilty each time after I slack. Then tell myself that I must go back to studying and not slack from then on...and the next hour, start slacking again. You have no idea how much I am slacking man..haix...CANNOT!!!...ohmigosh..
Bloodbank is crazy. After you thought you know everything else that needs to be "knowed", and then u look at the Past Exams questions, and then you freak out. haix...But I trust that the Lord will bring me through this!!..
