Extravagant Worship
Been wanting to write this for a real long time, and now finally.
All the while I thought I knew all I need to know about what extravagant worship is about. But on a thursday about 2 weeks ago, in class, my coach reminded us of how David danced for the Lord. To see how his heart was full of love for the Lord.
"David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might, while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets." - 2 Samuel 6:14-15
This was the story where the ark was brought back to Jerusalem, to the city of David. David rejoiced and danced before the Lord, where the maidservants all saw him. Michal, his wife, the daughter of Saul saw it and despised him and chided him for doing so. But David told her,
21 "It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord.
22 "And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honour."
God wants our praises, our worship...
During the normal church service, the usual praise and worship, what do you usually do? Stand there and look at everyone else? To see if anyone else is looking at you? To see if you are doing what others are doing? Or to see if others are doing what you are doing?
All these while mumbling the words of the songs without your soul in it?
This kind of worship is not what the Father is looking for. He is looking for worshippers who are worshipping Him with all his heart, soul, mind, spirit and all that is within him. That's what extravagant worship is all about. Not caring about who is on your right, who is on your left. Dancing, if you feel like it. Kneeling before Him, if you think He's worth it. Singing with all your heart. Lifting up your hands to exalt Him. Knowing that you don't have to perform for Him, but that you are going all out to worship Him because He's worth it.
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him." - John 4:23
On the next day, during caregroup, I had the chance to listen to Jonathan share about his revelation on worship. I don't even know how we went into that topic! For the record, we were just talking about hum chim pang and how he found me familiar minutes ago. He started telling me about his experience, his revelation. About how God taught him that worship is about not caring about what the person on his sides were thinking about him. About how he just cried that day when the song spoke to Him. He was just confirming with me what the Lord had reminded me yesterday. (Meaning the Lord had already told me all these before this period of time..only that it seemed to fade away..)
After that, when I went home, I started surfing the net looking for some research articles. Totally nothing to do with worship. But somehow, worship articles were found. It once again reinforced my understanding on worship. Worship.....is all about your heart, your soul and the core of your being adoring and connecting with God.
I am not there totally, to worship Him with all my heart and my soul each time I walk into church, during praise and worship. Sometimes, you are thinking about things that are happening, work that has not been done, anything. And you become like someone who's just singing the words out loud. It becomes mundane. That's not what I want.
But I have had the experience, where you throw everything that's all around you away behind you and just stand to worship the King with all your heart. It’s awesome. The feeling is indescribable. I am aiming towards that, when everytime I come to worship Him, I am doing that. Worshipping Him with all my heart and all my soul, in spirit and in truth.
Are you ready to be like David?
I live to worship You
I breathe to worship You
All of my days
Your face I will seek
For as I worship You
You lead me to that place
To that place
Of divine exchange
Pride and a real heart to worship God is just separated by a line. Which side do you belong to?...Share with you another day k?.....hehehe...
